I have had a number of lessons and thanks to the instructor (Gavin) his excellent skills, patience, calm explanation, good communication (speaks several languages) and humor I can kite fairly well and now it comes down to a lot of practice. I can recommend everyone to take kite lessons here!
I can't think of a better way to learn kite surfing fast, than with this team at this location. There is normally a steady offshore breeze which helps with safety - provided the boat with instructor is there at your side - and they are! Tom was the ideal instructor is every way - just the right amount of everything but not overwhelming, from safety to technique to physics and action of the kite. He was also patient with my repeated mistakes. By the 3rd lesson I was up and riding the board for short distances. I think for your mind and body (muscle memory and automatic reflexes) it is better to take a day off between the five lessons but my vacation was not long enough for that. At times I felt my progress was slow but Tom was always encouraging. The other instructors and office staff were all very helpful and friendly, and even let me borrow reef booties for me and my wife for snorkeling at a nearby reef. I hope to return to this site to advance past the beginner stage.
Incredible group of people. If you're thinking of kite boarding or wind surfing, you should 100% go here. We came here 4 consecutive days of our trip and loved it. I learned to kite board & my wife learned to wind surf. On our last day, there wasn't enough wind to get the kite out but we still stopped by to say hi to Loraine, Tom and the crew. I can't speak highly enough about them. Honest, genuine, and well-informed people. Tom taught me kiteboarding and focused on safety first and foremost. As an engineer, I was pumped that he helped describe kite flying dynamics with Bernoulli's principle! Don't be surprised when you hear it takes 3-4 lessons to get riding despite board sport experience: there are a lot of safety components to this sport that are important to cover before taking off in the deep. By the 3rd day, Tom and my wife were out in the boat and I was able to get both left and right 100-200 meter rides! By day 2, my wife had greatly improved with windsurfing and was able to come in to shore despite the offshore winds. Can't wait to get back on a board and so grateful our trip was made special by the Aruba Active Vacations team!
Aruba Active was very easy to coordinate and schedule with. All the employees were friendly and welcoming. They tailored my instruction and equipment to my skill level and were able to advance with me as appropriate. Instructor Gavin was terrific to work with. Very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. The off shore wind and conditions take some getting used to but their service and support fit the environment. I loved that the beach / area was not nearly as crowded as other places that I have kited. It is a very chill environment. Also, when I could stay upwind, the flat conditions were a real treat. I'd come back again!
My dad and I took individual kitesurfing lessons. Both of us had gone kitesurfing a few years ago so we were not completely new to the sport which the instructors took into account. Chema was my instructor and he was great, he helped me build confidence with taking longer runs. My dad had Gavin as an instructor who was very encouraging. Everyone was very welcoming, Lauren was super helpful with all our scheduling needs through WhatsApp. I recommend booking ahead of time and getting the 5 day package and taking a rest day in the middle to really see improvement in your kitesurfing. Overall we had a super fun time and we would definitely go back to improve our kitesurfing.
